About Weigh-In-Motion

Vehicle Crossing WIM Scale

Weigh-In Motion allows vehicles to be weighed as they are moving across the scale at speeds from 5-80 mph. While not accurate enough to provide legal for trade weights, with the proper site conditions accuracies of +/- 2% on gross vehicle weight can be achieved when using load cell based WIM systems. WIM is commonly used for checking compliance against over the road weigh limits, or for helping motor carrier enforcement personnel accurately target overweight vehicles for weighing on a static scale.

Benefits of Weigh-In-Motion

  • Efficiently weigh high volumes of vehicles in an unattended mode
  • Allows for efficient use of static scales and enforcement personnel
  • Automatically capture and remotely communicate vehicle weight data for planning or capacity utilization purposes
